Wedding Cupcakes at Alwyngton Manor

Aaaaaand I'm back! Hope you all are having a great summer and haven't melted yet. I've been keeping pretty busy over here at Quick Brown Fox Bakery, and have many pretty and shiny goodies to show you. Huzzah for that? Anyways, let's start off with a bang and dive into my most recent event: wedding cupcakes for the lovely Daphne and Mike!

Daphne and Mike got married at Alywngton Manor in downtown Warrenton, Virginia, and I must say that this venue is simply gorgeous. The interior of the manor house is decorated with rich, saturated colors, and the grounds and patio are simply breathtaking. After I was done setting up I just wanted to sit in the garden and relax, even despite the 104 degree heat. Oh yeah... it was 104 degrees. But I told the weather to sit down and behave, so it's all good.

I loved the flavor combinations the bride and groom chose for their dessert: chocolate fudge cupcakes with raspberry buttercream, lemon cupcakes with vanilla buttercream, and coconut cupcakes with coconut rum buttercream (Not For Children cupcakes are sometimes the best cupcakes, wouldn't you agree?). While I was setting up the display the darling little flower girl kept asking me which cupcakes she could have, and I had to resist asking if she was the designated driver. Mostly because her father was standing right there.

I am especially fond of the cake topper I made for this display. I played around with mixing flower sizes and colors in clusters, which I think looks quite nice. Also, I might just love adding sugar pearls to everything. Look how fancy they make everything! And shiny... can't forget shiny.

I tried something new while decorating this particular cake and used a slightly softened white chocolate ganache to adhere the gumpaste flowers to the fondant instead of stiff royal icing or tylose glue. And dude, this is how I'm doing it from now on. The ganache set extremely quickly so I didn't have to hold the flowers or the pearls on the side in place to dry-- they just stuck. It was fast, it was easy to pipe, it was awesome, and nothing melted. Score!

So congratulations to Daphne and Mike! And I'll be back soon with more pictures of completed projects. In the meantime, happy baking!
